While Vancouver has had several decades of having provincial backwater tendencies, Seattle and Calgary chose to become proper big cities, several decades ago. 

While Seattle's economy might be scaling down, nothing like the VMV will be shortening the Seattle trains and stations, narrowing the bridges and cutting the buildings in half.
