Melbourne was very wise to not get rid of its trams. Just like SF, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia and New Orleans kept some of their streetcar lines.
Of course backwards Vancouver and Victoria, BC were too quick to get rid of their streetcars and will likely be among the last cities to ever bring them back. Seattle and Portland were able to, because the BC Mind Virus (BCMV) has no effect on them.
